For products under warranty (one year is standard), we will promptly perform repair free of charge if the cause is manufacturing defects. If it is determined to be due to the customer’s mishandling, since the RMA processes require a great deal of our engineers’ time, we will charge a $500/item for the evaluation (or 50% of the device value, whichever is smaller). In that case, common examples include Broken Fiber caused by mishandling it as if it were electrical wires; Damaged Fiber Connectors either by contamination or high optical power; Damaged Electronic Chips by static charges due to hand touching the unprotected PCB module, especially in winter; Loose Electrical Pins resulting from high-temperature soldering/desoldering. Goods being returned for repair do not need to pay a US import tariff. However, the customer must fill out the form correctly. Customers must specify ‘ZERO VALUE – RETURN/REPAIR’ on the shipping paperwork and prominently display ”HTS code 9801.00.1012 (products not advanced in value).” RMA from outside the US must include multiple printed and signed copies of the ”Foreign Shipper’s Declaration of US Goods Returned” and ”Importer’s Declaration of US Goods Returned” with the shipment. Both forms will be provided along with the return instructions. An example of import paper is included.
