Abstract:

We propose a new compact and reliable laser system for rubidium laser cooling in onboard experiments like atomic clocks or atomic inertial sensors. The system is based on the frequency doubling of a telecom fiber bench at 1560 nm. Fiber components at 1560 nm allow us to generate the repumping laser and to control dynamically the power and the frequency of the 780 nm laser. With this laser system, we obtain a magneto-optical trap of 85 Rb even in the presence of mechanical vibrations and strong thermal variations (12° C in 30...

Abstract:

In this letter, we discuss the use of cyclic arrayed waveguide gratings in the construction of a multiplexed fiber-optic sensor system. The basic components are described and their role in interrogating sensors is discussed. The letter concludes with a proposed design for an expansive, low cost, highly maintainable system...

There are a number of advantages to this approach compared to other sensor interrogation methods. If a solid state optical switch is used (e.g., Crystalatch Switch, Agiltron Inc.,Woburn, MA 01801 USA), then the system requires no moving parts, increasing its reliability...

A Novel Protection Scheme for WDM Passive Optical Networks

Abstract:

Introduction Wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) can provide large transmission capacity and is an attractive implementation for future broadband access. With the rapid increase of transmission capacity of access networks, survivability becomes significant since any failure may disrupt a large amount of transmission data. Some protection schemes have been presented for WDM- PON [1-5]. In [4], a star-ring protection architecture is presented which extra protection resources are provided within one WDM-PON. In [5], a self protection architecture...
