The NSSM Series Fiber Optical Modulator provides high-linearity analog modulation with approximately 15% modulation depth, achieved by passively biasing the electro-optic crystal at its 3 dB operating point. The NSSM series uniquely offers low optical loss, high-speed operation, broad fiber compatibility, and cost-effective implementation that is engineered to meet the most demanding operational requirements, including ultra-high reliability, vacuum compatibility, vibration insensitivity, and fast response time, all within a minimal mechanical footprint. Devices are available in both polarization-insensitive and polarization-maintaining (PM) configurations. The modulator may be supplied as a standalone device or integrated with a dedicated driver, controlled by 0-5V input signals. An optional driver supports both full attenuation and small-signal linear modulation, selectable via an external electrical control signal. Customized electronic driver designs are also available to meet specific control or system-integration requirements. The modulator is bidirectional and is available in normally transparent or normally opaque configurations.
