The HPNA Series VOA is a high-precision, mode-independent variable optical attenuator that uses a moving neutral density filter positioned between two fiber collimators. It is ideal for accurate measurements, particularly in multimode fiber characterization, where conventional methods often introduce mode-dependent losses. Unlike beam-blocking or deflection-based designs, the neutral density filter attenuates light by absorption, preserving signal fidelity. Integrated optical position sensors ensure high repeatability and maintain stable attenuation once set, regardless of environmental variations. The unit delivers 0.05 dB repeatability, high resolution, and >60 dB optical blocking through its built-in shutter for calibration. Compatible with SM, MM, or PM fiber, the VOA includes a USB- or RS232-controlled PCB with GUI and a wall-pluggable power supply.
