The Fiber-Coupled Piezoelectric Phase Modulator/Shifter overcomes the signal distortion and non-linear response associated with conventional piezoelectric fiber stretchers by actuating a pair of optical fibers across a controlled gap rather than stretching the fiber itself. This design enables improved phase modulation response and provides phase shifting of up to 100π at modulation speeds up to 100 kHz.
