The WSTL Wavelength-Swept Tunable Laser delivers more than 20 mW of fiber-coupled output power while continuously sweeping across the full C-band at speeds up to 100 nm/s. The laser can also be locked to any wavelength on the ITU grid within a few milliseconds. During operation, the Bragg grating laser section is maintained at a fixed temperature to minimize thermal drift and preserve narrow linewidth performance, while the external cavity is thermally tuned to modify its refractive index and enable wavelength sweeping. The control circuitry continuously optimizes the internal etalon alignment to maintain single-longitudinal-mode, mode-hop-free operation and compares the lasing wavelength against an internal reference for accurate wavelength readout. As a result, the WSTL provides continuous, mode-hop-free tuning with narrow linewidth stability. The unit does not provide real-time wavelength position output and does not include a synchronization control input for external triggering. It operates as a plug-and-play system supplied with a dedicated driver offering variable output power control and USB-based wavelength scanning. The WSTL is available either as a compact module with a wall-plug power supply or as a turnkey benchtop system delivering up to 5 W (5000 mW) of optical output power. Control is via a USB interface GUI, and a command list is provided for custom software integration. An optional API is available for an additional fee of $650.
