Wideband Multimode Circulators (WMCs) are fused-fiber, three-port optical devices designed to provide a flat spectral response, high-efficiency multimode transfer (Port 1 → Port 2), and bidirectional multimode transmission (Port 2 ↔ Port 3). They enable multiple optical signals or illumination and detection channels to be combined within a single fiber, making them a versatile solution for multimode light management. Unlike conventional fiber couplers, WMCs can operate as either circulators or combiners while providing significantly higher isolation and directivity between Ports 2 and 3. Light entering Port 1 is transferred exclusively to Port 2 with minimal insertion loss. At the same time, Ports 2 and 3 support bidirectional transmission, allowing signals entering Port 2 to exit Port 3 and signals entering Port 3 to exit Port 2 with low loss. Light entering either Port 2 or Port 3 experiences high isolation or directivity, respectively, toward Port 1, minimizing unwanted back-coupling. This unique three-port architecture makes WMCs well suited for applications that require efficient signal routing and channel separation, including diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, and optogenetics. WMCs are available with 2.0 mm narrow-key FC/PC or SMA905 connectors and are offered in a variety of numerical aperture (NA) and core diameter configurations for each port. Additional customization options—including hydroxyl content, lead length, low-autofluorescence packaging, connector type, housing configuration, and specialty fiber types — are available upon request.
